It’s Time the UK & World get behind #Brexit

In the concluding months of 2017 there was much disarray and confusion within Westminster, within the UK, and within the Conservative party about Brexit. However the question must be asked , “Has there ever been a time in the past two years when Brexit has not been a source of some form of disenchantment ?”

The fact is many individuals within the UK  have sought to Politicize Brexit as a politically partisan issue when Brexit should be deemed a “popular” issue given that it resulted from the UK population exercising their democratic right via the referendum. What is even more astounding is that Brexit was not touted by factions of one party only, supporters of Labour, Conservative , Lib Dems and UKIP even some in the SNP all voted for Brexit.

The result of the referendum should not have only been respected by the Political parties as the will of the UK people, but even more critical was this result united all of the parties with the responsibility of putting their differences aside and ensuring a proper exit from the EU is undertaken. In essence supporters from across the Political Divide said “we want to leave the EU” and every political party, every single MP and Peer sitting at Westminster despite their preference has a duty to ensure it is done.

However what the world has seen looking at the UK Politics is some of the most disastrous and unpatriotic political gimmicks by Labour, Lib Dems, the SNP and sadly enough some members of the Conservative party. Here is a country which taught the Commonwealth about Democracy and respect for the will of the people, but when members such as myself read the news all we see are individuals trying to derail the process. What is the sense of Democracy if Jeremy Corbyn, Vince Cable, Anna Soubry , Lord Heseltine and Nicola Sturgeon are all trying to stomp on a decision that was produced from the democratic will of the people? To add insult to injury we have Tony Blair a man who I have tremendous respect for, but lets admit he never gave the British Population the truth on why he entered Iraq now telling the population Brexit is wrong. Really Tony, the Iraq decision which was not ratified by the UK population was right but Brexit which was sanctioned by 17 million UK citizens is wrong?

The reason so many of these UK political entities have decided to betray the will of the people is because they have forgotten their duty to the people they are supposed to serve and rather seeking political points.

It is time the UK population stand behind Brexit and encourage the World to do so. Brexit is a forgone conclusion and it is time everyone work towards getting the best out of it as evidence shows that “the best out of it” is possible. Now if you are listening to the BBC you may not get that because for some reason all we hear globally from the British Broadcasting Corporation is the negatives of Brexit, which are more based on opinion as opposed to being supported by facts.

UK citizens need to remember that before the their entry into the EU in 1973 Britain had already established a world and I mean that in a literal sense because besides protecting Europe in World War two it was the British Empire which developed so many nations, created brilliant public service frameworks around the world, established a standard of education, a standard of law and justice and Parliamentary Democracy. After running an empire for so many years people are afraid of the repercussions of leaving a TRADE BLOC? The EU was established for trade and strengthening foreign relations but it soon became a launching pad for power hungry men to stifle the identities of sovereign powers such as the UK who have never needed the help of others to exist.

Leaving the EU doesn’t mean leaving Europe . In 1958 a Federation of Caribbean states were formed which aimed to see the Caribbean as one state. However by 1962 it fell apart because the larger islands like Trinidad and Jamaica left due to the burdens they were facing from the smaller islands such as economic constraints and lack of an identity. Today despite the Federation being broken up we still have free trade in the Caribbean and we still support each other via a new group called Caricom. Unlike the EU Caricom doesn’t look to “oppress” and throw their own values on the different countries.

So the move away from the EU is critical to allow the UK to flourish unrestricted once more. However the success of Brexit depends on the will of those in authority. Brexit cannot fail based on leaving the EU, it can only fail when British Politicians weaken the system and work against a proper plan foward . If all citizens get behind Brexit , there is a world of opportunity waiting outside to work with the UK who has a Commonwealth of 52 nations standing with her.
