We must never surrender and allow Remainers to tell us that the UK can’t do it alone.

On the 4th of June 1940, Winston Churchill in the House of Commons gave courage to a world filled with fear and uncertainty from the rampaging Nazis when he pledged “we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender”

As a Commonwealth Youth it is hard not to become teary eyed from these words because it was these courageous actions by the United Kingdom which saved our world. This was Britannia, in her usual brave demeanour telling the world I would stand with you till the very end. Therefore, without a doubt it could be said that no other nation has stood with the world, protected the world, developed the world and enhanced our way of life as the United Kingdom.

Today as Remainers spread fear and propaganda that Brexit would beckon the end of prosperity and success for the United Kingdom, using history we must remind them that this is a nation who saved the world in their darkest hour. This is a nation who developed a Commonwealth and has contributed to global development more than any other European nation. Therefore, we must reject the notion of Remainers that the United Kingdom cannot do it alone. She did it before and she will do it again.

With May’s Brexit defeated in the House of Commons, the UK people must realise that this defeat can result in the victory of being freer to participate in Global Trade according to WTO (World Trade Organisation) rules. Many of the successful nations such as China, Japan, Australia, and the United States have built their economies by trading with nations outside of their specific geographical region and more importantly without the restrictions of regional bodies. As we see the rise of Asian trade with many products from both China and India being shipped to the Caribbean, the question must be asked: why can’t this happen for a “post Brexit” United Kingdom?

It seems that many have fallen into the trap and narrative set by the EU that without them the UK is nothing, when in reality the UK was a trade powerhouse before. It was this trade which defined our global history, as surely when you read of the great trade missions to the East we never see, “the British fleet accompanied by its EU comrades”. It has always been the UK alone.

It is imperative that as we go forward both sides of the debate understand that Brexit must be undertaken because it was a democratic decision; a decision if ignored would be the greatest betrayal to modern day democracy. What is even more important for the people of the United Kingdom, from the student to the businessman, is the recognition that while many nations in the world have depended on others to create their social and economic fabric, Britannia has stood by herself for centuries charting her way forward.

It is on this realisation we must never allow Remainers to say “we cannot” succeed. We must remind them of how many times “we have” succeeded and in doing so there is no doubt that “we will once more” again.

It is pertinent that we clear up the common mistake in differentiating Europe from the EU. Europe is region which the United Kingdom will always belong to, after all it was she who protected it in World War II when all seemed lost. The EU however must never be viewed for anything else than what it really is, a supranational bloc.

Remainers and citizens at large must remember that your freedom, your economic independence, your laws and sovereignty must not all come under attack or be controlled. The United Kingdom has worked too hard to build key elements of this world to be shackled by those who have not even achieved as quarter of what she has done. Brexit is the restoration of sovereignty , freedom of will and unregulated power to the nation that built this world to build ITSELF based on its own self-determination , desires, and goals set out by its people for its people. A decision which has been ratified by democracy

The United Kingdom, unlike the other European nations, has the comfort of a Commonwealth of Nations behind her which offers a tangible and feasible foundation for her trade success. As Churchill said in his famous “Never Surrender” speech to the House of Commons, “even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”

Today friends of that Empire stand ready to work, build and walk in hand in hand with the nation that gave us so much. As a people, UK citizens must accept that not only is Brexit an act of Democracy, but it is one of the greatest acts which would give back control and power to the people of the UK.

    Mr Morris,
When Churchill said: ” the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.” he was referring to the USA.
Seriously, is that what we’re to hope for – isolationist, mendacious Trump charging to the rescue with a mountain of fast food and chlorinated chicken?
History did not start in 1940. Widen your perspective and realise that we no longer hold the advantages that created the empire. If we don’t stand together with Europe, we’ll be picked apart by China and the USA, global corporations, and super-rich oligarchs.
