She’s only gone and offered them a second referendum

That’s what a colleague and fellow Conservative activist said as he phoned me yesterday afternoon while I was out walking with my family. Initially I was amazed, but as I sipped my coffee yesterday afternoon, I realised that this is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Theresa May. She has constantly ignored her own on red lines and in doing so has decimated her own and her party’s credibility. Yesterdays speech was just another reminder of how inept she has been as a leader and as a Prime Minister.

The reason we are in the mess we are in now is the Prime Minister didn’t have the guts to tell Europe where to go in the first place. After concession after concession its easy to wonder if she even went in with any sense of what she wanted at all? The local elections should have been a wake-up call to the MPs in Westminster, but it seems that they are now hell bent on making their relationship with the base of the party even worse.

Once again voters will go to the polls this week except this time, they have a clear avenue to vent their frustrations, and I don’t blame them. After seeing and speaking to activist after activist I can see Conservatives in their droves voting for the Brexit Party this week. The question is, will this finally be the wake-up call that May and her allies need? Or will this next Conservative election defeat fall on deaf ears.
