Three Questions for the Tory TIGers

Anna Soubry, Heidi Allen, and Sarah Wollaston have all defected from the Conservative party to join the 8 ex-Labour MPs in The Independent Group. The Independent Group is a group of Anti-Brexit, Blairite, oops I mean *centrist*, MPs which are basically the Liberal Democrats but don’t want to be associated with a party that is led by Vince Cable and used to have Nick Clegg. They also don’t want to be a technical political party so that they can avoid that whole pesky electoral oversight thing that comes with a cap on political donations.  Anyway, the TIGers stated that they won’t be standing for by-election, because to quote Heidi Allen, the Tories and Labour “want to crush the birth of democracy.” Since I lack the immense brain power of these Remainers (as they constantly remind us), I have three questions for them to help me understand Ms. Allen’s statement.

  1. Did the electorate of Totnes, South Cambridgeshire, and Broxtowe know what they were voting for in 2017? According to their own statements and literature, the Tory TIGers all promised to honour Brexit and uphold the Conservative manifesto they were running on. Here is a collection of statements and videos of Ms. Allen, Soubry and Wollaston promising to be Brexit-implementing Tory MPs.
  2. Is it possible that voters have changed their minds since the 2017 General Election? I know I lack these three’s brilliance, but maybe it is possible that the Conservative volunteers who pounded the pavement in South Cambridgeshire to get Heidi Allen elected may have changed their minds since Ms. Allen declared that she wants to DESTROY the Conservative party?
  3. Why do all the Tory TIGers support a “People’s Vote” on Brexit but not in their own constituencies?

If the answer to these questions are: 1. No they didn’t know what they were voting for, 2. They have changed their minds, and 3. Because the plebs are stupid and got in wrong in 2016 – who is crushing democracy?
