Ujjain is an ancient city and is a part of Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the highly revered Hindu cities and is the city of Lord Shiva. Filled with revered temples, water tanks, and number of old monuments the city is a must visit for a traveler.
An ancient city, Ujjsin is a part of Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is also a district and houses the district and the division headquarters that share the same name, that is Ujjain. It is one of the seven most sacred Hindu cities, and is the city of Lord Shiva. Additionally, Lord Vishnu is also highly followed and worshipped here. It is said that the city houses one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in the Mahakaleshwar Temple, which is one of the most visited temples in India. Note that the temple is an old temple and exhibits the refined medieval Indian architectural style. The temple has five levels containing idols of Lord Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, Kartikeya, and Nandi. It remains open for a visit everyday across the year. There is hardly any time when the temple is not busy with the devotees and tourists. Meanwhile, the relaxing thing is that there are various convenient modes to reach the temple. It is one of the major landmarks in the city. Furthermore, it is also believed that Lord Krishna along with Balarama and Sudama received their education from the sage Sandipani at his ashram situated in the city. The ashram still exists today, and one can find the paintings of the Lord here. Meanwhile, Ujjain is also one of the four sites in the world where the Kumbh Mela is held. Visiting the city during this mela is perhaps the best time for a tour of the city. The magical religious milieu simply engulfs one within the city.
